The first seminar held at the Department of Linguistics, SNU in 2021 is “Force dynamics in Language & From force dynamics to causal models” by Bridget Copley


The speaker currently works at Unité Mixte de Recherche 7023 (Structures Formelles du Langage), Université Paris 8, France. She acquired her PhD in Linguistics from Université de Nantes in 2018.

Introduction:

Dr. Bridget Copley is a leading scholar in the recent theories on the cognitive model of causation (force theory) and the formalization of causal meaning interpretation. Dr. Copley’s lectures will provide various insights into the form-meaning correlation in Korean Causative-Passive constructions. Dr. Copley also plans a colloquium in SNU Department of Linguistics on October 22nd. The talk is entitled: “Events are the source of causal readings in the simplest English conditionals.” [Detail]
